ps, maybe he's just saying that ian mcshane grew in popularity and is now in high demand, so he couldn't commit to staying on "deadwood," whereas ed o'neill is... ed o'neill.

keep in mind, i love ed o'neill. but unless stan nikita's donuts needs a new spokesperson, well, you know...
