Summers to Resign?

Rumors are flying around that Lawrence Summers, the president of Harvard whose signature is likely in your wallet, will resign today. This after years of angering the Harvard Black community (re: his confrontation with Cornel West) and its female community (re: his remarks on women and science). So what finally pushed him over the line?

  • Edward Lazarus dishes out some bad-tasting medicine, addressing why progressives are having such a hard time gaining credibility when it comes to national security. I can’t say I agree with all of his arguments, but he’s pushing the debate into the right direction.

Michael Brown: “Yes, I was a crony…”

Former FEMA director Michael Brown was on Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO last night, looking confident after finally getting a week of semi-positive coverage in the media. Bill directly asked him if he was a crony, and his answer can be seen in this post’s title, admittedly with the “as far as” context removed. Six months later, and Brown is looking a lot better, and Bush a lot worse.

The crazymonk.org Banner

I’ve been asked a few times where the pictures on the banner come from, so I thought I’d take the time to answer here on the blog. All the pictures but two were taking with my ancient 2 megapixel Canon Powershot A40 – the others (marked with an *) were taken with my brother’s much nicer 6 megapixel Canon EOS-10D (I think). Yes, I need a new camera.

IOP opens up video archive

The Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government is releasing video footage of their Forum discussions from the past 30 years. This includes speeches by Bill Clinton, Robert McNamara, Cesar Chavez, and a whole bunch of other important folks.
