Edwards: A Brief Editorial
I am not upset or mad at Edwards for having the affair – it is his business, and between him and his family. However, I am extremely pissed off at him for running for President after having the affair, particularly because infidelity issues have in the past hurt the Democratic party to the point of arguably getting Bush elected. What an egomaniacal dick, to run for president when the stakes are so high.

The Wire has taught me that everybody is always having an affair.
Also, you pretty much can't make a serious run for president without being an egomaniacal dick. Who do you think you are to presume that you are the best choice to be president?
Granted, hence my feeling that the direction of our country is way too dependent on personalities and their flaws. Still, Edwards was playing with fire.
McCain, however, whose known infidelities are decades old, somehow manages to skate by.
Jon May beat me to it with that second comment.
Y'know, the more we talk about this crap, which is just a distraction from issues of importance, the more power it has. (That's sort of Jon Stewart's thesis in the past couple of years.)
To clarify, that was a criticism of CNN and company, not you.
Plus McCain was particularly dickish about his infidelity. At least Edwards had his before his wife had cancer.
Actually, her cancer was in remission at the time. It was, however, before she discovered it became aggressive.
It seems easy to point out that McCain is relatively impervious at least in part because of deference to his having been tortured (and this just brings my irreverence to a boil in no time). Then also I wonder if part of it is that his particular base of support unconsciously thinks him even more of a man for his virility (which is ridiculous, 'cause I bet I could kick his ass!).
I saw something on Slate (which granted via the insipid Kaus Files continuously followed the Edwards rumors since last year), which suggested a la the John Edwards scandal, that John McCain has more recently had an affair. And the women looked exactly like his wife! Him dropping his first wife after returning home should be reported more by the MSM... since he bases so much of his run for the presidency on that single event-- it should merit discussion that he himself admitted that he handled his marriage like an immature prick right after that.
And the press should report on this story, I think it's important to expose public figures (and Edwards seriously wants to be a public figure and potentially had a good shot at Attorney General) when they don't live up to what they preach. It's interesting that the MSM up until this point gave Edwards a pass. What's that all about? It was an usual bit of restraint on their parts, and I'm sure it will receive considerable analysis in the upcoming days.
Plus, since Edwards' emphasis on family was such a huge part of his message and public appearances, cm you are right, he's a loser-- and a fake (which is in many ways worse).
Ok, ok, I know I'm getting a little carried away here. But there are some reports that Edwards needed to "clear the air" if he wanted to play a role at the convention. Are you kidding me? If this is why he confessed, he lives on another planet.
Sorry, it's late, I'm tired, and I just scanned through that post... A lot of grammatical errors... happens to the best of us.
I don't think we should necessarily condemn McCain just for getting divorced. They both went through life-changing traumas when they were pretty young; it's not surprising that they might have changed as people. I don't mean that I support either the way he handled it or his taste in bottle-blonde fembots, but divorce itself shouldn't be grounds for condemnation.
I'm pretty sure he had a relationship with Cindy before the divorce, which makes him an adulterer, albeit a more reasonable one. And McCain left his first wife ostensibly because of the car accident that disabled her, shortened her, and fattened her, which doesn't look exactly good either.
Fattened?
i'm just glad edwards didn't win the nomination, or even come close, and has no chance at being named VP.
i'm also glad that, hey, has anyone noticed that barack obama is basically cakewalking to the white house?
i don't wanna jinx anything -- but mark my words, october is gonna be a 31-day version of the 4th quarter of this year's NBA Finals Game 6.
