I’ve always wanted to know the word for those things floating around in my eyes. Now I know: they’re called floaters (heh) and are an example of entoptic phenomena -- that is, “visual effects whose source is within the eye itself.” (via mefi)

I am 34 years old and about a month ago I noticed a black spot floating in the peripheral vision of my left eye. This was particularly odd since we were battling mice at the same time. Needlessly to say, I was getting paranoid.
In the past month the "floater" has moved closer to the center of my vision and I have noticed see through floaters moving across the center of my left eye. I drive hundreds of miles per day for may job and I really notice it then.
My real worry is that my left eye is my "good" eye. My right eye is lazy and getting worse by the year. They tell me that if I get the muscle shortening surgery, it will ruin my middle vision. I work on the computer for my job, so that is not acceptable.
Does anybody have any explanation or help. I'm worried .
