Oddly enough there is a scene that reminds me of my favorite scene in Uwe Boll's BloodRayne II. New York Anthony will feel the same way.

The Rodenator | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 10:52am

Please elaborate.

That'd be funny if PTA became the next Uwe Boll.

crazymonk | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:01am

There is a similarity in content and acting style, not in directing style, in one scene.

The Rodenator | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:28am

I dare say the Rodenator is talking about an amazing scene where a preacher preaches to his flock. It is so damn funny. "The flippin and the flappin." Back to the matter at hand, with the Coen Bros and PTA coming out with what look like two of the best films in years, I am a happy man. And though I have yet to see either film, can we just give the Oscar to Daniel Day Lewis and supporting to Javier Bardem. It's a lock fo Daniel Day, no? Who wouldn't vote for him.

Los Angeles Anthony | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:28am

Isn't PTA just as arrogant as Boll? I guess one is talented while the other isn't.

The Rodenator | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:28am

But that is what makes Boll so fun to watch. He thinks he is a genius and so he works without a net. Anyone can make a bad film, only a certain kind of genius can make the films Boll makes. Films that are so bad it boggles the mind while you watch. I love watching his films (though Blood Rayne II was very boring).

Los Angeles Anthony | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:36am

we can all thank scorcese right? for going to italy and bringing daniel-day lewis back with him?

also, i am excited about this film. it seems to have content and substance. yay content and substance!

pta and me are all good since PDL. we've been over this.

i'm excited.

also, LAA (los angeles angels of anaheim), did you mean "the best films in years" or "THEIR best films in years?" two different thoughts.

jbg. | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:53am

In a way, both. There have been few great films in the last few years. Oscar winners and nominees have all been pretty week. Last year only Children on Men blew me away, and these two films look like they have that potential. But it also looks like the Coens best film in years. PTA has not made anything in a while, and has a tiny body of work, so the same does not apply to him.

Los Angeles Anthony | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 12:16pm

I'm a big fan of folks who do quality work that is slow in coming. I've been pretty into all of PTA's movies for various reasons, although so far they've had a lot in common with each other- I mean I don't think it's a huge challenge to draw out the links between hard 8/boogie nights/magnolia/punch drunk love. To some extent that's true of anyone with serious thematic and aesthetic focus, but PTA definitely ran the risk of becoming a genre of his own. It seems like I can expect this one to move beyond the space he'd created for himself with the previous four in some substantial ways. I'm psyched.

Jesse | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 2:04pm

i really don't see links between pdl and his other films, but that's because i'm a stout believer that he "found himself" with that movie and eliminated the excess crap that wasn't working. again, that's me. i'm sure others can see the correlation: i deny it because i feel like it.

jbg. | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 7:34pm

Personally, I am hoping PDL was an anomaly.

Los Angele Anthony | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 9:13pm

los angeles anthony, clearly we must fight to the death.

we both knew this was coming.

i shall meet you in oklahoma city at 7:14 e.s.t. on the day of the next vernal equinox.

choose your weapon wisely for it shall be the last decision you ever make.

jbg. | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 9:45pm

Crazymonk will be my second. Who is yours?

Los Angeles Anthony | Fri, 11/02/2007 - 9:48pm

BRD, obviously. he brings the power of smug.

jbg. | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 5:26am

believe it or not, i've got your back jbg. trust me, i can take Monk in a fight. there will be smothering and taint-scratching.

flea | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 8:40am

I'm not smug.

RumorsDaily | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 9:08am

And I'm not Jewish.

(sorry. Had to find some excuse to get in this thread.)

Jon May | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 10:36am

well well, los angeles anthony of anaheim, if that is your real name, which clearly it is not.

seems there's an all-out gang war to be had. me. smug brd. flea. jon may and his deadly menorah of truth.

you're going down.

jbg. | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 11:13am

The only thing I've ever been smug about was my lack of ipod ownership.

RumorsDaily | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 11:24am

I think maybe I should ref this one- the only thing I can say with certainty is that Hard 8 is not the best of the 4, so I'm fairly impartial. And there will be blood. Taint blood.

Jesse | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 12:04pm

if laa has his way, this fight will go on for an unsatisfying 3 hours and 8 minutes with no clear resolution, at which point it will inexplicably just stop.

jbg. | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 12:15pm

jbg draws first blood!

RumorsDaily | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 1:14pm

If jbg had his way, he would distract me by playing terrible music on the harmonium, while singing songs from the Popeye musical. Sure, it will only last a scant 90 minutes, but it will still suck no matter how short it is.

Los Angeles Anthony | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 7:26pm

you're not gonna win that argument. jon brion is great, and the popeye movie is one of the greatest things to ever happen to the world.

jbg. | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 8:06pm

Jon Brion is great. Adam Sandler playing the same notes over and over again is not. As for the Popeye movie, I agree.

Los Angeles Anthony | Sat, 11/03/2007 - 8:30pm

so you admit that i'm right? good. now we can all move on with our lives.

except for you, you're not working out. i'll be playing your part.
