Videos of a new batch of commercials for AT&T, directed by Wes Anderson. “step away from the camera dolly, wes,” says one of the commenters, but hey, a person’s style is a person’s style. (via kottke)

Anderson walks the fine line between style and cliche. Which is not to say I don't enjoy it.

well, whatever. the point is they're fun to watch. and while they re-use sort of the same concept as the cross-sectional boat from life aquatic, each one of these spots is way more entertaining.

crossing fingers for darjeeling ltd.

jbg, you thought the AT&T commercials were more entertaining than the cross-sectional boat scene? Aside from the repetition taking the fun out of a not-as-funny joke, I thought the boat bit was just cooler in general. Also, the American Express bit, while different in that the main character moved rather than the whole scene moving, was a funnnier application of this bit, mostly because Wes is better in the role than the actors in these spots and because the background elements were more absurdist (like the various gun selection, etc).

I agree that they're more fun to watch than most cell phone commercials, and most commercials in general.

I watched two of them. (And had actually already seen the first one on tv. Who is that actor?) I liked the AmEx spots a hell of a lot better.
